Steam engine

The steam engine in the historic Birgel watermill dates back to 1917 and was originally operated in a brewery. After extensive dismantling and reconstruction, it was restored with great dedication and is now fully functional again. With an output of 80 kW, it drives the oil mill and impressively demonstrates the power and technology of times gone by. Visitors can see its impressive performance for themselves during a demonstration as part of the Technology Days.

The fascination of the steam engine

Our steam engine - a historical witness

Steam engines were the engine of the industrial revolution and still represent the beginning of modern technology today. The historic steam engine of the Birgel watermill impressively illustrates how the power of steam was used to drive large machines independently of wind and water for the first time.

As a fully functional original, it not only shows the technical development of its time, but also brings the tremendous energy and engineering skills of past generations to life.

origin

Steam engines played an important role in the industrial revolution and were used in factories, mills and breweries to drive machinery. With their power, they enabled a new level of mechanization. Even today, they still inspire technology fans and history buffs, as their ingenious mechanics and the impressive power of steam are an exciting piece of technological history. Information on the individual demonstration of the steam engine can be found here.

Tradition. Craft. Experience.
